The Seniors, Reserves and U19s face Ormond at EE Gunn in the final practice hit-out before the season while the Senior Women’s team play in the VAFA Lightning Carnival.

The three men’s teams have had solid games against Pearcedale and St Pauls and face Ormond on Saturday in what has become a traditional pre-season fixture between the two clubs. There will be three games with the Under 19s at 9:20am, Reserves 11:30am and Seniors 2:00pm, at Ormond’s home ground – EE Gunn Reserve.

Also on Saturday, history will be made as the first senior women’s team in the Rovers’ 88 year history play a game. This is part of the inaugural VAFA Women’s Lightning Carnival at Sportscover Arena (Elsternwick Park).

The Rovers first game will be at 10:20am against De La Salle at Sportscover Arena, followed at 11:40am v Old Geelong and 1:40pm v St Bedes/Mentone on Elsternwick Park Oval 1. At 3:00pm, the Grand Final will be played out between the two highest ranked teams. The matches will be 2 x 15 minute halves with 18 players on the ground and unlimited interchange. There are 24 teams competing across two days while in total, there are 40 women’s teams participating in the inaugural season.

Following the on-field action on Saturday, the 2017 Season Launch is being held at Hotel Brighton, from 7pm onwards. We’ll hear from the coaches and captains and have a bit of fun as we launch the new season. The cost is $20 per head or $35 for couples and we encourage all players, family & supporters to get along. You can pre-pay or pay at the door on the night – click here for details.

The VAFA season commences next week with the Rovers hosting the first ever VAFA Women’s match Friday night, 7th April at Boss James Reserve against Ormond (view details here) and the Seniors travel to Kew to open their campaign on Saturday. The U19s are at home against Old Ivanhoe and the second U19 team travel to Aquinas.
