Hampton Rovers suffered a 31-point loss to Old Geelong at Como Park on Saturday while at the Boss, both Under 19 sides recorded big victories.

It was cold and blustery conditions at South Yarra and that made it a scrappy affair. The Rovers struggled and didn’t play anywhere near their best.

Goalless in the first term, Hampton kicked two in the second to trail by 21 points at the main break. It was a better third term but still the boys could manage just the three goals to have a similar deficit going into the last.

The home side finished stronger and ended up with four goals to two in the last to run out comfortable winners. James Prosser was the Rovers best who did a great job on Big V captain George Burbury, also managing to kick two goals.

This week the Rovers return to Boss James Reserve to take on Marcellin and will be looking for a similar performance to last time the boys played at home and knocked over Williamstown.

The Reserves were severely undermanned with many players missing on Saturday and the result went as expected, managing just the three goals, going down by 40 points and dropping out of the top four. The boys will be looking forward to some big inclusions this week when they return home.

Both Under 19 teams played at Boss James Reserve and recorded big wins. First up, the Seconds took on Peninsula Old Boys and after a slow start, had a big second term to set-up a 53-point win. Corey Jones kicked five and in for his first game of the year, Will Walker kicked four.

The Firsts then took on Old Geelong and recorded a 51-point victory. The goals were shared between 10 players while Harrison Crisp, Tom Sharry and Scott Ebbott were amongst the best players.

The Women’s side travelled to Parkville on Sunday to play Melbourne University and went down by five points in a tight encounter. Scoring shots were level but it was the home side kicking four goals to two to take the win. The Rovers remain in third position on the ladder with one round remaining.

This Saturday is Super Saturday at the Boss. Three games starting the Reserves at 11:40am followed by the Seniors at 2pm v Marcellin. Then the Women take centre stage with a twilight match kicking-off at 4:45pm against Mazenod. The President’s Luncheon gets underway at 12 midday and later in the evening, it’s the Salvo’s Shuffle Night function. More info >
