Women's footy to expand in 2018

Hampton Rovers Football Club plan to field two Senior Women’s teams in the VAFA in 2018 following huge popularity in the inaugural season. The club is now accepting applications for coaches.

Women’s footy has gone from strength to strength and the Rovers had 50 registered players in 2017 which proved difficult at times with just the one team. The club hosted the first ever VAFA Women’s game for premiership points in front of a big crowd under lights at Boss James Reserve while the Rovers Girls made the finals despite a big injury toll.

With such great numbers and already plenty of new players expressing interest in wearing the green & gold, the club has decided to expand to two open-age women’s teams in 2018 to cater for the demand. The club also fielded two junior girls teams this year and plan to field up to six teams in the SMJFL in 2018 including an U18 youth girls team.

Further information about Women’s footy at the Rovers in 2018 and player registrations will be available on the website soon. Pre-season training is expected to start in late November. If you are interested in joining the Rovers in 2018, please email womensfooty@hamptonrovers.com.au.

The club is now accepting applications for 2018 senior women’s coaching roles. Coaching experience and a level one coaching accreditation is preferred but not essential. To apply, please email steve.anderson@hamptonrovers.com.au

To make two senior women’s teams a reality in 2018, the club will require the assistance of volunteers. A team manager, boundary umpires and various match day assistants will be needed to ensure the club can field an additional team. Volunteers don’t need to be available every week – a roster system can work well. Parents and friends of players are ideal to fill these roles and it is rewarding to be involved in a community club. If you are interested in helping out, please email womensfooty@hamptonrovers.com.au.

The new team will likely play all games and train at the club’s second home ground – Castlefield Reserve which is better suited for women’s footy. All existing players have been sent a survey to allow them to provide feedback and help the club improve all aspects of women’s footy for 2018.
