Thom McCarthy to line up for VAFA U21

The Queens Birthday long weekend means a week off for the Rovers and the first weekend of 2009 VAFA representative games. Rovers seniors player Thom McCarthy has been selected in the U21 side to take on AFLQ at Toorak Park.

Three Rovers players were originally selected in squads with Tom Curry also in the U21 squad while Ryan Semmell was picked for the U23 squad who take on the WAAFL in Perth. However it was Thom McCarthy who made the final list and will wear the Big V this Saturday.

Thom, the younger brother of James ?Butch? McCarthy, has had an outstanding season for the Rovers, his first as a regular seniors player.

The VAFA U21 take on AFL Queensland U21 at Toorak Park, Armadale, from 1pm on Saturday. Live coverage on 96.5 Inner FM and streaming live online at www.innerfm.org.au.

Also this weekend, the VAFA U23 take on the WAAFL U23 at Fremantle Oval in Perth kicking off at 4:25pm AEST and the VAFA Senior C-D4 side takes on the VCFL Districts at Barooga from 1pm. Live broadcast online at www.fm985.com.au.

The VAFA Senior A-B game, providing another opportunity for Hampton Rovers players to take part in, will take place during the next weekend off for the top two sections of the league.
